The world has moved on from Trump, even if his most loyal Republican allies have not The world has accepted the results of the 2020 election, even if President Donald Trump and his GOP allies won't. Carlos Barria/Reuters Leaders of important world powers and major democracies have stepped up to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden in recent days, which is a sign of his legitimacy. Major media outlets across the board have also declared Biden the projected winner of the election, including Trump's favored network Fox News. President Donald Trump is rejecting the results of the 2020 election and many of his Republican allies have followed suit, but the rest of the world is not on their side. Leaders across the globe, including some with close ties to Trump, have flooded in over the past several days to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. This is a major sign of Biden's legitimacy in the world's eyes, and indicative of the empty nature of Trump's allegations of voter fraud or a "stolen" election. The leaders of key US allies and major democracies such as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and French President Emmanuel Macron, among others, have all extended their hands to Biden. Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, leader of one of the world's most populous countries, sent a warm message of congrats to Biden and Harris. "Congratulations Joe Biden on your spectacular victory!" he said. "As the VP, your contribution to strengthening Indo-US relations was critical and invaluable. I look forward to working closely together once again to take India-US relations to greater heights." Even leaders widely viewed as close allies of Trump, such as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have congratulated Biden. Benjamin Netanyahu (@netanyahu) November 8, 2020 The only remaining holdouts on the global stage as of Tuesday morning were autocratic leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro a far right, populist leader who's often referred to as the "Trump of the Tropics." Mexican President Andrs Manuel Lpez Obrador has also not yet congratulated Biden, stating he wanted any outstanding legal issues to be resolved. Many of the lawsuits presented by the Trump campaign have already been dismissed in court. In contrast with Trump's baseless assertions on the election result, an international delegation invited by the Trump administration to observe the electoral process in a preliminary report applauded how the election was handled overall. The report also criticized unsubstantiated allegations of fraud. "It is critical...that candidates act responsibly by presenting and arguing legitimate claims before the courts, not unsubstantiated or harmful speculation in the public media," the report stated. By midday on Saturday, all major news outlets in the US had declared Biden the projected winner of the 2020 election. This includes the conservative-leaning Fox News, which has been Trump's favorite network for years. With that said, there's been a growing rift in the coverage of Trump between the news and opinion ends of Fox News. While the opinion hosts like Sean Hannity continue to side with Trump and are echoing his baseless claims of voter fraud, news anchors at Fox like Neil Cavuto have refused to air the president's unsubstantiated allegations. facebook sharing buttontwitter sharing buttonpinterest sharing buttonemail sharing buttonsharethis sharing button Latest Posts Investing is a lifestyle.
